Jim Carlson has performed in the Central Wisconsin area for over two decades as both a solo singer-song writer and as a supporting musician. In January 2003, he released his debut solo CD, “Out of Fashion”, which showcases his abilities in the contemporary folk-rock genre. Jim is currently working on his second CD, "Further Out".
Jim's performances are an alternative to traditional 'cover band' or 'human jukebox' offerings. The sets feature original music from his "Out of Fashion" and forthcoming "Further Out" CD's as well as select, often obscure cover songs from contemporary artists (U2, James, John Prine, Ryan Adams, Gear Daddies). These shows go over extremely well in areas where audiences are open to new music. If you are looking for a traditional cover band, Jim is most likely not your best entertainment choice. That being said, Jim is always happy to recommend other musicians who may fill your needs!
There are several live options to suit each venue’s individual needs.
• Solo: This is the most intimate and popular show featuring Jim and his guitar. The Solo performances are ideal for small to medium venues. Solo appearances are performed with basic amplification or 'completely acoustic' depending room size and volume considerations.
• Duo: Several Musicians including Will Heisler [lead guitar], John Hocker [electric bass], Roger Bardo [fretless bass guitar], as well as percussionists Sean McCue and Brian Miller have teamed up with Jim for Duo performances. The Duo performances have a unique depth and melody while retaining the intimacy of the Solo show. This package is great for small to medium rooms.
• The Jim Carlson Trio is unique in that the line up tends to vary. Sean McCue [drums] and John Hocker [bass] along with Will Heisler on guitar are currently are featured at most shows [technically forcing the Trio into a quartet]. Roger Bardo and Brian Miller remain Trio members 'at large' and rejoin the Trio when scheduling permits. The Trio is ideal for medium to large venues.
• Jim performs regularly with several singer/songwriters and has organized several multi-artist shows. Please contact Jim for additional information.
Performance Requirements: Jim and the Jim Carlson Trio travel extremely light. To reduce cost and load-in/load-out times, the group does not use a traditional PA, nor provide stage lighting. Guitar and vocals are processed through Jim's Bose L1 system, which has proven adequate for most venues. Additional sound reinforcement and lighting requirements must be discussed prior to booking.
